Middle Childhood Development

(Ages Six through Twelve)

Among our priorities in middle childhood development are the following Result Areas:

• Actively involving parents in the quality of their child’s education.
• Shifting traditional learning environments’ focus on adult needs toward a concentration on children’s needs.
• Changing traditional learning environments so that they become more closely aligned with children’s developmental needs. These environments will include: engaging, age-appropriate materials and learning processes designed to address the developmental needs of each child.
• Adding to the number of the 40 Developmental Assets that children possess.
• Strengthening community involvement in the development of 6-12 year olds.

• Improving Lives: Support for a program or service that will benefit young people’s development.
• Building Your Ability to Serve: Support for building the capacity of your organization through increased skills and knowledge.
• Making Capital Improvements: Support to upgrade your organization’s property equipment or facilities.
• Completing Research: Support for seeking a better understanding of your field or area of concentration.
• Conducting Advocacy: Support to provide education and information to your stakeholders.
• Striving for Innovation: Support to improve the effectiveness of your organization and its services.
• Other: Support that is related to young people’s development but falls outside of the specific categories listed above.
