Promising Projects

We have recently approved the following grants which we think hold strong promise for accomplishing our mission. As you use this resource please notice that many different types of things are purchased with grant support from the Dekko Foundation. What is most important is the IMPACT that is expected as a result of the grant investment.

Child-Centered Education:

$4,300	Speaker’s fee for “A Framework for Understanding Poverty.”	Help teachers and school staff understand what it’s like to grow up, and live, in poverty. In the long run, they’ll do a better job of meeting the needs of children from poor families.
$2,000	Buy books for ‘Noon Book Talks.’	Adults from the school’s media center and the town’s library meet at lunchtime with students. They’re feeding students’ interest in reading for pleasure through lively conversation.
$233,600	Purchase technology and equipment for the EAST Program.	High-school-aged young people are challenged to use their knowledge to solve REAL community problems. For more info see: www.cde.ca.gov/ls/et/ft/east.asp.
$21,000	Plants and animals to outfit an outdoor learning center.	An unused school courtyard is turning into a shared school space for math, science, writing and more!
$4,900	Books, storage and incentives for “Think or Swim.”	No more summer reading slump! Now, kids are reading during break time at the swimming pool. And they’re coming back to school with their reading skills polished!
