Promising Projects
We have recently approved the following grants which we believe hold strong promise for meeting our objectives. In using this resource please notice that many different types of things are purchased with grants from the Dekko Foundation. What is considered most important is the impact that is expected as a result of the grant.
Early Childhood Education:
| Amount | Purpose | Long-Term Impact |
|---|---|---|
| $36,735 | Implementation of a marketing plan for a child care center. | Enrollment at the end of 2008 will allow the center to operate with a balanced budget. Center will re-establish its scholarship fund with a goal of not turning away children due to parents’ inability to pay. |
| $3,254 | Purchase of materials for a new toddler classroom at a child care center. | As the school builds enrollment in its toddler area they will be able to move these children into their preschool and school-age rooms. Strong full-time preschool and school-age enrollment is part of the strategy to keep this center in the black for the long term. |
| $3,965 | Early literacy kits available for checkout at local libraries. | Parents will indicate that the literacy kits brought about a change in their teaching habits with their children. (In other words, this grant will bring about a change in parent behavior.) |
| $30,000 | Purchase of a mini bus. | Safely and legally transport children to kindergarten and for participation in after school activities. Keep enrollment at high levels by offering families one location for child care and their preschool and school-aged children. |
