Ready to apply? Here's how:

  1. Make sure that your organization serves young people within our grantmaking areas. Those areas are: In Alabama—Limestone County. In Indiana—DeKalb, Kosciusko, LaGrange, Noble, Steuben and Whitley Counties. In Iowa—Clarke, Decatur, Lucas, Ringgold and Union Counties. In Minnesota—the Community of Ada.

  2. Contact us if you’re not sure that you are a youth-serving organization or if you haven’t received a grant from us in the past.

  3. Work with your board of directors to determine the organizational problem you are trying to solve. Typically Nonprofit Toolbelt Grants pay for:
    1. Education: Board or staff needs information to do their job well.
    2. Consulting: Board or staff needs an experienced guide to help with a specific initiative or problem.
  4. Meet with two or more providers of the type of assistance you need. Receive a quote for their services. Decide which of the providers fits your organization.

  5. Submit a brief request to the Dekko Foundation asking for Nonprofit Toolbelt support. Include the following:

    1. Statement of the problem that you want to address.
    2. Objectives that you expect to accomplish by working with a professional. (Sample objectives might be: the completion of a strategic plan, the development of a marketing plan, or understanding the feasibility of a new venture.)
    3. Timeline for completion of your consultation or education process.
    4. Copy of the consultant’s quote for services.*
* In situations where we are able to make a Nonprofit Toolbelt grant, the youth-serving partner is responsible for choosing and employing the consultant and holding him/her responsible for accomplishing the objectives of the project.
